 Description:  Hamletmachine Co. Ltd. based on Heiner Muller’sHamletmachine performed by MA students in 2012 which reflected the postdramatic aesthetics and boldly contained the sexual politics, cross-gender conditions, criticism of neo-liberalism, performer’s self-reflexivity, notion of the death of the author and spirituality as well as rituals.

Basanta Jagaran

Description: Basanta Jagaran is a semi deconstruction of Frank Wedekind’s proto expressionist play Spring Awakening wasproduced by the department for a 7 day long theatre festival in 2013, challenged and aesthetically attempted to negate and negotiate the modernist naturalistic approach which is a dominant school in Bangladeshi theatre.

Prakriti Chita o Amaler Charalnama

Description: Prakriti Chita o Amaler Charalnama  deconstructively based on Rabindranath Tagore’s three plays in a form of juxtaposition in terms of language, class and the relationship between ontology and cosmology which was performed in January 2016 at an international performance festival titled Happenings at Kolkata and Visva Bharati University in India.

Birnggona Kabya

Description: Different organisations observed the bicentenary of the birth of poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt organising programmes in different parts of the country on 26 January, 2024. Dhaka University Nazrul Gobeshona Kendra, the university’s Bangla department and theatre and performance studies department jointly organised a daylong programme at the Natmandal of the university. The DU theatre and performance studies department premiered a play titled ‘Birangana Kabya’ at the venue in the evening as part of the event, which began at 9:30am. Wahida Mollick Jolly, Kazi Tamanna Haque Sigma and Somaiya Moni acted in the play based on Michael Madhusudan Dutt’s Birangana Kabya, which revolves around eleven women characters.

Laal Mojlum

Description: Lal Majlum is a theatre production directed by Dr. Shahman Moishan.  The play is a distinctive street play funded through public contributions. It sheds light on the violent legacy of the student-led mass uprising while interweaving the region’s pivotal mass uprisings throughout history. A peaceful performance program, in the form of a street theatre titled “Lal Majlum” commenced at Dhaka University’s Raju Memorial Sculpture on 16 November, 2024, marking the tragic events of the historic mass uprising of July-August.
